A week after crashing 7-0 at home to Bury Town, this was another setback for the Bones.
However the victory takes Atherstone to the top of the British Gas Business Southern League's Division One Midlands table.
And there could be no complaints
that the result was thoroughly deserved.
The Adders took the lead on the half-hour mark when Lee Greenmay met a corner with a free header.
Rothwell had several attempts on goal which came to nothing as they held on to half-time.
But in the first minute of the second half an absolute fluke by Scott Devlin made it 2-0 when he hooked the ball over his head towards the goal and it sailed over Alex Malong into the net.
Three minutes later Luke Barlowe put Atherstone 3-0 up at another set-piece.
Tom Bates scored with a 25-yard free-kick and, although Rothwell came back a little more into the game, with four minutes left Barlowe scrambled home.
