Pensioner prosecuted over Kettering town centre crash

A pensioner will be taken to court over a crash in Kettering's town centre which forced the victim to have a leg amputated.

Ernest Charles Howard, 82 and of Tresham Close in Kettering, has been charged with careless driving after the serious crash on August 13 in Gold Street.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was hit by a Citroen C4 near the parking bays just after 1pm.

A quick-thinking soldier who was in the area came to his aid and used his belt as a tourniquet to stem the bleeding.

The victim was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries where he had to have a leg amputated.

No court date has yet been set for Howard to face magistrates.
